Learning Waves members celebrate at Love Radio Awards.
On Friday 19th February 2016, the radio industry celebrated at the Mansion House during the annual Love Radio Awards. The Lover Radio Awards showcase the amazing vibrant creative medium and honours the very best in creativity in Irish commercial radio.
The first award of the night saw Media Central take sliver for best Collaboration between Radio Station and Agency. This was just the start of the night for the Media Central team which saw them scoop Gold for National Sales Team of the Year, Gold for Creative Radio Organisation of the Year and Sliver for Best Commercial Radio Promotion and Bronze in the best Collaboration between Radio Station and Agency.
The team at IRS+ won Gold for Most Effective Radio Campaign, while UTV Radio Solutions picked up Gold for Client of the Year - the Radio Lover. WLRFM took bronze in this category. Local station Corks 96FM scooped Gold in the Best Station Category, a bronze in this caterory also and bronze in Best Station Produced Spot - Regional/Main City. Midlands 103 took Gold and Bronze in the Best Station Produced Spot - Local and Gold in Best Motor Trade.
Today FM took Gold in Best Production Studio of the Year and a Silver in the Best Station Promotion Category. LMFM took Silver in the Best Campaign Category while Classic Hits 4FM took Bronze in the Best Motor Trade Category.
The final award of the night was the Louise Jesson Radio Star Award. This award honors an individual working in the commercial side of radio in Ireland (North or South) who has made an exceptional contribution to the industry.
The award was created to honour the memory of Louise Jesson who passed away on 26th July 2012. Louise was a key member of the UTV Radio Sales team and was a pioneer of the commercial radio business. Louise is sadly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her in the industry.
The award was presented to Des Whelan, Managing Director of WLR FM in Waterford for his outstanding contribution to radio in Ireland. Presenting the award, Brian McCarthy of UTV Radio Solutions said that ‘Des continues to drive innovation on a daily basis and that he is always looking for the next opportunity, he is a man who believes standing still is going backwards and he embraces change that makes radio better. Des was described on the night as a great mentor, colleague and friend’. Congratulations to Des from all at Learning Waves and we wish you continued success in your radio career.
