Radio Listenership Remains high in Ireland - JNLR figures released today.
The latest JNLR audience figures released today shows that the daily radio audience hit 3.4 million listeners, growing by 193,000 listeners compared to 2022 daily listenership levels.
The JNLR report, covering the period January ‘23 to December ‘23 shows that Radio enjoys huge listenership with 91% of Irish adults and 87% of 15–34-year-olds listening to radio every week.
The daily listenership levels are also hugely impressive with the daily weekday audience now at 3.4 million, growing by 193,000 listeners compared to the January to December 2022 period. Listenership for 15–34-year-olds also increased with 71% of this age group listening every weekday, an uplift of 59,000 listeners compared to the 2022 research period. Listening levels to local and regional radio continues to be very strong with 2.2 million adults listen to their local or regional station every single weekday.
The ability to access content easily and the quality and popularity of Irish radio means that this latest JNLR shows that the average adult is listening to radio content for over 4 hours each day.
The recently published Irish Audio Report which looks at total audio listening shows that live radio dominates with a 74% share of total listening. Music streaming has a 12% share of listening while YouTube Music and Podcasts have a 7% and 3% share respectively.
5.9% of all adult listening is now through a smart speaker while listening via a mobile device accounts for 3.3% of all radio listening. This increases to 6.5% of all listening through a smart speaker and 8.4% through a mobile device for the younger 15 to 34 age cohort.
Radiocentre Ireland recently released its revenue report which shows that Irish radio had a very successful 2023 with total revenue at €164 million, up 4% versus 2022. In 2021, total radio revenue was at €145 million, an almost €20 million increase in 2 years shows the strength of the medium and its importance to advertisers.
