News Analysis - How to Maximise the Impact for your Listeners.

This course provides news teams in radio stations with the opportunity to review their news output, assess their news style and look at how news is integrated across all programmes in the station.  The course also provides stations with the opportunity to look at voice training and scripting for news. The overall aim of the review will be to help stations improve the quality of news broadcasts by an analysis of their style guide (where applicable), as well as paying careful attention to their story selection and output style, and a focus on the quality of their scripts. The trainer will act as a consultant for the station in question, and will afterwards provide a short written report critiquing their output and offering constructive advice and criticism, as well as suggestions as to how they could improve in the future.

Day 1

• Meeting with News Editor to discuss station style.
• Trainer will listen to news output and to observe the news team in operation throughout the day.

Day 2

• Review of observations from Day 1.
• Training with news team.

Course Outcomes

At the end of the training course participants will have a better understanding of teamworking, shift patterns, area of coverage, story style, selection and order, as well as writing, interviewing and newsreading techniques.

Training is delivered in-station specifically for the news editor and news team.
