Course Aims
A highly interactive and practical two-day course designed to develop the editorial leadership skills that are essential to leaders in a multimedia environment. The course will help you to clarify your editorial vision and communicate this to your team. It will look at the editorial values that underpin your vision and focus on how to make your team the best it can be: delivering the best in original journalism. The course is a 2 day intensive programme with a half day virtual follow-up in which participants will build the skills needed to be an effective and confident newsroom leader. The course will also support you in creating an enviroment where every member of your team understands what is required from the output and from them.

Course Content
Day 1
In advance of Day 1 participants will be required to complete a personal development plan 'The Newsroom Leader I am and the Newsroom Leader I want to be'.

- Contracting and Psychological safety
- Purpose and Vision - What does great News Leadership look like right now?
- Your editorial leadership challenges(action learning)
- Your leadership style and your impact on others
- Editorial In-tray - practicial newsroom exercise
- Great conversations - listening and questioning
- How listening and questioning skills support strong editorial teams and the delivery of impactful original journalism
- Share tips and techniques for impactful journalism
- Reflections and learnings
- Homework - Purpose and Health Check
Day 2
- Ice-breaker and reflections on Day 1
- Editorial In-tray - practical newsroom exercise
- Feedback and honest conversations
- Your team health check
- Communication styles and tips and techniques
- Update on Newsroom Leader you are and want to be
- Commit to actions to be reviewed at virtual follow up session
Day 3 - Virtual (8-12 weeks after course completion)
- Review actions, progress and insights since face to face sessions
- Celebrate successes
- Identify new or emerging challenges
- Work in action learning groups
- The power of this network - how the newsroom leaders can support each other, collaborate and innovate

This course is aimed at News Editors, Deputy News Editors and those aspiring to be in the position of News Editor.
Course will take place on 16th and 17th April 2024.
